An apology

Dear birds that built the nest outside my window,
I was really excited to see that you had built a nest in the branch where I could see it so easily from my bedroom, honest!  When I woke up today and saw the nest was gone (apparently blown away by the strong winds we have had the last couple of days) I was really sad.  It was only after that I realized the clumps of grassy stuff I threw for the neighbor's dog to fetch the other day must have been the broken-up parts of your nest.  I was just looking for something to throw to him because he loves to fetch things.  I'm sorry!  I hope that when these winds are over you will decide to put another nest in the same tree -- I would love to see you again.
